Opportunities From: Portland Parks & Recreation

Volunteer: Overlook Nature Patch Stewardship Event

Join PP&R horticulture staff keep up the natural garden at Overlook Park.

Created in 2021, the Overlook Nature Patch is a one-acre pollinator garden with a high diversity of native plants that support insects and wildlife.

Work parties - weeding, mulching, pruning - are held (usually) every first Friday of the month to keep this beautiful garden healthy.

This natural-themed garden is one of many offerings at Overlook Park. The nature patch is located at the north slope of the park along Overlook Blvd.

Learn more about the Nature Patch program and gardens.

Please register ahead of time.

Meeting location: At the north side of the park at the street entrance to the garden on N Overlook Blvd where it intersects N Massachusetts Ave. Here's the map link.

Parking and public transit: On-street parking is available on SE Steele Street. The park is accessible by Trimet bus.

Children are welcome. Any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.

Location Description/Accessibility: The garden is located a short distance from a paved pathway. Most work is within soft-surface garden beds, and includes flat and steep areas.

Thank you for helping to keep Portland parks healthy and beautiful! Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.

In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, long pants, a coat, sun hat, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!

Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness.

All tools, gloves, and training to do the task are provided.

While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week.

If you are looking for community service to fulfill court requirements, please call 503-823-5121. You must be registered with our program before undertaking any community service.
