The loss of habitats due to human activities is one of the leading causes of the drastic decline in the Monarch Butterfly. The garden is designed primarily with native plants, which includes Milkweed, the only plant that Monarch caterpillars can eat. Creating new habitats is one of the best ways to help the Monarchs recover. The Portland Monarchs are leading this event, and no gardening experience is necessary. All instruction and tools will be provided. During the event, we will continue to remove unwanted plants, define existing planting areas, mulch, and tend to the garden.
