Join PP&R horticulture staff to help keep up the natural garden at Lents Park.

Created in 2020, the Lents Nature Patch is a one-acre pollinator garden with a high diversity of native plants that support insects and wildlife. 

Work parties - weeding, mulching, pruning - are held (usually) every third Friday of the month, April-October, to keep this beautiful garden healthy. 

This natural-themed garden is one of many offerings at Lents Park. The nature patch is located at the south end of the park by the community garden and playground.

Parking and public transit: On-street parking is available on SE Steele Street. The park is accessible by Trimet bus.

Children are welcome. Any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.

While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week.

If you are looking for community service to fulfill court requirements, please call 503-823-5121. You must be registered with our program before undertaking any community service.

Please join us as we revitalize the Hazeltine Park Nature Patch with 400+ new plants!

Wear sturdy close-toed shoes and layers to dress for the weather, plus any snacks you want/need.  Gloves and shovels will be provided. Work looks and feels different for every body. We encourage volunteers to go at their own pace and take breaks to rest. Keep yourself and your community safe and healthy - please stay home if you are sick. There will always be more opportunities to volunteer with us!

We will be planting inside landscape beds and natural spaces with rough and uneven terrain. There are picnic tables and shade available. There is no water or bathrooms available on site. If you have questions about the accessibility of the event, please email us. If you have an ADA accommodation request to be able to participate in this volunteer event, please use 311. 

Project details
Join Portland Parks & Recreation, and Trail Keepers of Oregon, for our trails volunteer event at Mosquito Hallow . Volunteers will be maintaining the trails in the park. This is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. No experience needed. Tools, gloves, water, coffee, snacks and project instructions provided. Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring your own personal water bottle and snacks. Volunteers will be hiking to the project site.

Join Portland Parks & Recreation on the MAC Trail in Washington Park every Monday, rain or shine, to care for one of Washington Parks most used hiking trails. The MAC Trail winds its way through the park, connecting community and visitors to its many amenities and attractions.  Spend a couple of hours with us, weeding, mulching, planting, and learning about invasive plant management. 

We meet at 9:00 am and end at 11:00 am

Goldenball Youth Basketball League Mission

The purpose of Portland Parks & Recreation’s (PP&R) Goldenball youth basketball program is to encourage our youth, regardless of ability, to learn the fundamentals of the game. Develop a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship. Experience the satisfaction of team play and individual cooperation. To have fun and enjoy playing the game of Basketball. Goldenball is a recreation program based on good sportsmanship and the development of basketball fundamentals.

Goldenball is a team registration-based program for 3rd-7th grade. We recommend no more than 10 players on the roster. We rely on volunteer coaches to register a team, select players, and manage the details of their squad. We take a limited number of teams for each grade, and a waitlist is formed once we meet the capacity the league can accommodate

Volunteer coaching is a big task, and our program could not run smoothly without your efforts. Here are some tips for keeping your team organized. For more detailed information see the attached guidelines and league rules.

4. Next, you will be prompted to fill out your qualifications. For coaches this means signing the Coaches Code of Conduct, watching the Goldenball Coaches Rules Video, reviewing concussion facts, and completing a background check consent form. For team coordinators, you only need to complete the background check consent form. 

5. You will not be a qualified volunteer until your background check is approved and all other trainings and forms are submitted. You will receive an email when your background check is approved.

We invite our community, family, and friends to share space and tend our plant relatives together. We meet every second and fourth Saturday of the month, from 10am to 2pm. We hope to see you then!

Tools provided. Please bring gloves, bring water and snacks, wear close toed shoes, and dress for the weather.

This event will be cancelled if the temperature is over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, if there is lightning, if roads and walkways are very icy, or if the City of Portland is closed due to inclement weather.

Days will be cancelled for the month of December. We look forward to seeing everyone at the end of November 2025 and in 2026!

Are you enthusiastic about gardening? We are looking for volunteers to help tend the gardens at the Multnomah Arts Center. Gardening volunteers help keep outdoor spaces welcoming, beautiful, and well-tended for all who visit. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the health and appearance of the grounds while supporting a vibrant community hub. This is a great role for someone who enjoys working with plants, being outdoors, and making a positive impact in the community!

These positions work independently and allow volunteers to work as their schedule and availability allows. PP&R will provide onsite training, ongoing support, and all supplies.

NOTE: If you plan on coaching more than one team, you are required to have an assistant coach for each team. The assistant coach must attend one of the coaches’ meetings. We will continue to try and work with scheduling issues, however, with the rising number of teams, it has become more difficult to accommodate requests. Coaching three or more teams is not permitted.

Join Portland Parks & Recreation in the garden every Tuesday, rain or shine, to tend to the plants on the grounds at Pittock Mansion. Spend a couple of hours with us, weeding, mulching, and planting throughout the garden.

We meet at 9:00 am and end at 11:30 am.

There are two restrooms in the garden and a water fountain. The garden is accessed by paved paths, which are flat and free of holes. Shade is limited in the garden and there are two to three benches in the area for sitting.

We invite all members of the community to help care for the plants and garden beds at Burlingame Park. We meet every third Tuesday of the month from 10:00 am to Noon. Projects and tasks will be determined based on the number of volunteers who sign up.

Fulfill court-ordered community service hours by helping to cleanup a park in a neighborhood near you. Locations, dates, and times vary and will be determined after a phone screening. We want to ensure your shift will work with your schedule and transit options.

Please arrive on time and ready to work at the start of your shift. Please bring a water bottle, wear close-toed shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather. Training and tools will be provided on-site.
